Titans Upset Miami-Dade On The Road

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Community College sophomore right-hander Ashton Fronsoe turned in his second stellar pitching performance in a row on Friday as the Titans upset host Miami Dade College 6-2.

Fronsoe, who pitched seven innings of no-hit ball in a 1-0 victory against Broward College on April 5, combined with reliever Jon Piriz to limit high-powered Miami Dade to seven hits.

Meanwhile BCC’s hitters rebounded from a disappointing two-hit effort in a 2-0 loss to Indian River State College on Wednesday to pound Miami Dade pitchers for 13 hits.

The victory improved BCC’s Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference record to 10-11, breaking a third-place tie with Broward College. Miami Dade, which has already clinched the conference title and the automatic bid to the state tournament, fell to 17-4. Two of the four losses are to BCC.

The victory also aided BCC’s drive to finish second in the conference and host the conference tournament that will determine the second entrant to the state playoffs. Palm Beach State is second at 12-10.

BCC hosts Miami Dade at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne Campus and completes the regular season by visiting Palm Beach State on Tuesday and hosting it on Wednesday.

Sophomore Matt Harris was the offensive star for BCC on Friday going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three runs batted in. Classmate T.J. Glessner went 4-for-5 with two RBIs.

“All-around the guys played a great game,” BCC head coach Jeff Tam said. “We’ve just got to keep pushing forward aggressively.”

BCC 22-19-1 overall while Miami Dade is 33-7.

Admission to Saturday’s game is free.
