BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A construction dumpster fire was fanned by high winds this afternoon in Melbourne damaging a home under renovation.

The fire was reported in the 2000 block of Washington Road in Melbourne just before 3:30 p.m. today.

The fire department successfully stopped the spread of flames to the attic limiting the damage to the eaves of the home. Nobody was home at the time of the blaze.

After dumping several tanks of water and foam on the fire, the dumpster company transported the smoldering dumpster to the landfill where it was dumped so crews can extinguish the smoldering construction materials.

Crews from Melbourne Fire successfully extinguished the fire at the county landfill off Sarno Road.  Lt. T.J. of Melbourne Fire Rescue said they had such difficulty with the fire because it was mostly used roofing materials.
