Panthers Trail Leader By 16 Strokes

DADE CITY, FLORIDA – Six days removed from No. 9 Florida Tech’s win at the US Women’s Invitational, the Panthers’ women’s golf team squad opened the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in seventh place on Sunday.

FIT shot an opening-round 319, some 16 strokes behind leading No. 1 Nova Southeastern.

Florida Southern’s Barbara Vejlupkova and Lynn’s Jessica Bradley lead the field after shooting a one-over-par 73.

Senior Jessica Hook, who won the individual title at the US Women’s Invitational, paces the Panthers in a tie for eighth. She shot a five-over 77 in the first round.

Freshman Felicia Leftinger and sophomore Rachel Polson each completed round one in the top 20, shooting 78 and 80, respectively.

Sophomore Jara’ Templet rounded out the Panther scoring with an 84.

Nova Southeastern leads No. 6 Barry by six strokes, while No. 5 Rollins rounds out the top three at 313.

The Panthers will be in the first pairings to tee off Monday for the second of the three-day tournament.

Freshman Anna Johnsson will begin in the first group.
