BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Health First Foundation recently awarded a dozen $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at eight local high schools who will be pursuing advanced degrees in medical studies at various colleges across the region.

The Health First Foundation recently awarded a dozen $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at eight local high schools who will be pursuing advanced degrees in medical studies at various colleges across the region.

The criteria for scholarship selection included grade point average (GPA), school and community activities, financial need and a written essay by applicants on their career goals and future plans. Fifty-four applications were received and reviewed by the selection committee. Winners are eligible for a second year grant of an additional $1,000 if they continue their studies and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The scholarship program is made possible by the Foundation’s community fund raising efforts, as well as individual donors who provide financial gifts for named scholarships.

Scholarship recipients, their high school and the scholarship awarded are:

• Alyssa Cunningham – Satellite High School; Genevieve Brombacher Memorial Scholarship
• Rachel Forrest – Viera High School; Alma “Clyde” and J. Edward Field Memorial Scholarship
• Haleigh Gerrett – Viera High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
• Christian Kurian – Heritage High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
• Raven Laravea – Viera High School; Marjorie E. Spezzano Scholarship
• Kristen Medley – Heritage High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
• Patricia Michaelson – Eau Gallie High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
• Danie Nargi – Merritt Island High School; Vince Spezzano Memorial Scholarship
• Saskia Sassine – Bayside High School; Dr. Robert and Patricia Griffin Scholarship
• Vashti Shiwmangal – Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy; Dr. Brian P. Gibbons Memorial Scholarship
• Lisa Simpkins – Viera High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
• Courtni Thibault – Cocoa High School; Health First Foundation Scholarship
