According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Daniel Pumphrey of Rockledge fell asleep at the wheel at about 2 a.m. this morning as he was traveling northbound on I-95 at mile marker 194 and veered into the median guardrail.

Pumphrey bounced off the guardrail and came to rest in the northbound center lane of I-95 facing south with his 2006 Toyoya’s headlights flickering.

Brian Hills of Miami, driving a semi truck and trailer, was traveling northbound on I-95 in the center lane and didn’t see Pumphrey stopped in the roadway. Hills’ truck struck Pumphrey’s Toyota, and the semi overturned on to the right shoulder.

LaMonte McMurren, and his passenger Kevin Le Gendre, both of Orlando, were stopped on the right northbound shoulder when it was hit by Pumphrey after the crash with the semi.

No one was transported to the hospital, and the fully loaded semi had to be unloaded before it could be uprighted. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Pumphrey was ticketed for careless driving.
