This year’s race, the Monkey Madness, took runners on a 3K race from the main entrance, down the service road to the back of the Zoo and then into the Zoo running around the main loop and through Paws On.

From there, runners headed into Wild Florida and out onto the Art of Sand exhibit trail and into the behind the scenes Treetop Trek area before circling along the back of the Zoo to the main entrance for the finish line.

Runners were able to see animals stationed along the course, as well as the Art of Sand sculptures.

TWO SEPARATE RACES

The 3K races at the Zoo are always animal-themed and bring a variety of participants including children and families. Due to the high number of participants in 2012, Running Zone and Brevard Zoo staff decided to hold two separate races in 2013 – No Monkey Business (under 20 minute finish) and the Scenic Route (over 20 minutes).

The free Li’l Monkey Kiddie Run followed both races. More than 1,186 runners registered to participate in the race this year including 300 kids under age 14.

In 2014, Running Zone will host the Meerkat Mosey 3K at the Zoo on Saturday, Feb. 15.
