BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – David Costa, 77, was pronounced dead at the hospital following after a mid-morning traffic crash at the intersection of San Filippo Drive and Community College Parkway, according to Yvonne Martinez, Palm Bay Public Information Coordinator.

Palm Bay Police patrol officers and fire-rescue responded to the report of the crash just after 10:30 a.m.

According to witnesses, Costa, who was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis and heading north on San Filippo Drive, ran the red light at Community College Parkway and hit the driver of a southbound Toyota, which was attempting to turn east onto Community College Parkway.

It is believed Costa was having a medical issue that contributed to the crash, according to Martinez. The driver of the Toyota, a female in her 20’s, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.
