David Floyd Devol Passes Away At 90

OBITUARY

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – David Floyd Devol, 90, of Melbourne, passed away on July 26, 2013 at his home, as he wanted.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Gloria. Born May 7, 1923 in Hocking County, Ohio, he is survived by brothers, Dannie and Bobby Lee, sister, Mary, his son, Dave, daughters; Pati Devol Anderson, and Carol Bricker/husband, Don, grandson; Brad Barton, and great-granddaughters, Danielle and Jennifer Barton.

He served in the Army Air Corps in the European zone with 30 bombing missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 3 Oak Leaf Clusters for heroic actions of repairing a fuel tank leak inside the wing of a B-24 Liberator under enemy fire, saving the lives of all crew members.

He was the past American Legion and AMVET Commander, active in other military and social charitable organizations, including the Shriners as a 32 degree Mason and Funsters, supporting the Shrine Hospitals for Children.

He also sponsored, baseball teams and organizations supporting youth of America.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Smith Chapel Food Pantry, 1333 E. Front St. Logan, OH 43138.

Viewing hours will be held at Beach Funeral Homes – West, 4999 N. Wickham Rd. Melbourne/Suntree, on Thurs. Aug. 1, 2013 from 11-1pm with a funeral service to begin at 1pm.

Full Military honors and entombment will immediately follow at Fountain Head Memorial Cemetery, Palm Bay.
