SANFORD,FLORIDA — George Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder. The jury delivered the verdict shortly before 10 p.m.

Manslaughter was an option provided to the jury, but Zimmerman was not found guilty of manslaughter in the verdict.

During a press conference, Zimmerman’s defense Attorney Mark O’Meara said, “It was a little bit of David vs. Goliath, but we won…we certainly had some concerns with rulings as they occurred but we accept that.”

O’Meara also expressed extreme frustration with national media coverage prior to the trial.

“You took a story that was fed to you and you ran with it and you ran right over him [Zimmerman],” O’Meara said.

Defense Attorney Don West said, “That’s been such a challenge for me….no case had this kind of media attention, where the media was accused of such irresponsibility…being swept along with a narrative that’s not true. As a defense attorney, it was an incredible distraction.”

Trayvon Martin’s family were not present in the courtroom as the verdict was read. According to the family’s attorneys, the Martin family was in a safe location during the reading of the verdict. The attorney asked the public to respect the family’s privacy.

After the verdict, Trayvon Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, tweeted, “God blessed Me & Sybrina with Tray and even in his death I know my baby proud of the FIGHT we along with all of you put up for him GOD BLESS.”
