Tropical Storm Chantal Weakens

STORM MAY BE DOWNGRADED TO WAVE

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The National Hurricane Center is sending a reconnaissance plane to determine if Tropical Storm Chantal should be downgraded to a Tropical Wave.

According to the National Hurricane Center, as of the Wednesday, July 10 afternoon update,Chantal is located at 16.5°N 70.8°W, moving West-Northwest at 29 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds dropped to 45 miles per hour, with higher gusts.

Minimum central pressure 1011 MB. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles, mainly to the North of the center.

If the reconnaissance plane verifies that Chantal has degenerated into a tropical wave, all tropical cyclone watches and warnings will be discontinued later this morning.
