Hospital Gift Shop Robbery Suspect Arrested in Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Robert Wallace, 30, suspected of robbing Wuesthoff Hospital’s Gift Shop in Melbourne  today was taken into custody by the Melbourne Police Department and booked into the Brevard County Jail.

According to Melbourne Police Department Sgt. Sheridan Shelley, Melbourne Police received a call at 2:29 p.m. yesterday after a man walked into the Wuesthoff Hospital gift shop  at 250 N. Wickham Road, and held a knife to the clerk and demanded money.

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the area. The store clerk was not injured.

The suspect, Robert Wallace, 30, was soon located in the woods and taken into custody after struggling with the arresting officers. After being booked, Wallace was to be taken to the Brevard County Jail. (SpaceCoastDaily.com)

According to Sgt. Shelley, a Melbourne Police officer soon spotted a man matching the description of the robbery suspect riding a bicycle on Wickham Road.

When the officer attempted to stop the subject, the man turned down a side street, jumped off the bike and fled on foot into a wooded area.

With assistance from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, a perimeter was set up and officers searched the wooded area.

Wallace was soon located in the woods and taken into custody after struggling with the arresting officers. After being booked, Wallace was to be taken to the Brevard County Jail.
