Brevard’s Version of the Grammys
This year’s Brevard Live Music Awards show will be held Monday, September 9 at the Henegar Center in Downtown Melbourne, Florida.
Yes, we’re back at the old venue. The Henegar Center has stepped up to be the host of several rock shows and concerts throughout the past year, so we feel that it is the right stage for the BMAs this year.
The event is produced by Brevard Live Magazine with the help of sponsors, musicians and friends. 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to the Brevard Music Aid, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps members of our local music scene in times of need.
“We think that the Brevard Live Music Awards is great for Brevard as it recognizes talented performers that live here on the Space Coast and who entertain us all, year in and year out.
We have an incredible amount of musical talent here in Brevard,” said William Payne of Matt’s Casbah, which is one of many local sponsors of the event.
Heike Clarke of Brevard Live Magazine, created the event 10 years ago and it has grown every year. It is frequently referred to as the hometown version of the Grammys. The annual Brevard Live Music Awards ceremony is recognized as one of the biggest nights of the year for Florida’s East Coast music scene.
In 2013, the show returns to Melbourne’s Henegar Center for the 10th time, on Monday, September 9th beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The annual party attracts hundreds of fans and industry insiders who come dressed to impress to celebrate the past year’s hard work, dedication and talent of area musicians and performers. In addition to presenting awards, the 2013 BMAs also will offer an outstanding array of local musicians.
Featured performers include Bittersweet, Billy Lee, Gary Kirby Jr., Katty Pleasant, Brevard Busking Coalition, with a house band featuring Joe Calautti, Tom Willett, Sam Hill and Steve Mazzi.
Admission for the BMAs is $10 and the show is open to music fans of all ages. All proceeds benefit Brevard Music Aid, Inc., a not-for-profit fund that aids local musicians.
Brevard Music Aid: A Little Help From My Friends
When Brevard Live publisher Heike Clarke and promoter/dj/musician Chris Long decided to produce the annual Brevard Live Music Awards they knew that it needed to benefit a worthy cause.
The first few years all proceeds were donated to the Joe Realino Memorial Fund, a well-respected organization that benefits employees in the hospitality business on the Space Coast.
Then, in 2008, Brevard Live Magazine established another not-for-profit fund for our music community including all musicians, djs, sound-guys etc. – the Brevard Music Aid Inc. Just last year this organization received the 501(3)c non-profit status as acknowledged by the IRS dating back to 2008.
Over the past years several members of our music community have received support by the Brevard Music Aid.
