Florida Tech Cross Country Remains In Top 10

ABOVE VIDEO: The 2013 Mountain Dew Invitational Cross country race was held on Sept. 9 and had a great turnout for both athletes and audience.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s cross country teams are ranked among the South Region’s top 10 teams in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings for the second straight week.

The women moved up two spots from last week to land in sixth and the men remained at No. 8.

Through the team’s first two races this season, the women have been led by freshman Inka Homeyer. The native of Konigswinter, Germany placed 12th out of 165 runners in the 5K South Florida Invitational at 18:00.49.

FIT tied for fourth in the race as a team. Homeyer then finished 58th out of 270 runners at the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational at 23:09.03. As a team, the Panthers came in seventh overall.

The men have shown improvement in their first two races, finishing sixth out of eight at the South Florida Invitational and then fifth out of 15 at the Mountain Dew Invitational.

Justin McMaster nabbed 13th place out of 122 runners at 15:14.14 in the opening race. In the following race, David Boiywo finished 67th out of 230 at 26:36.85.

Up next for the Panthers is the University of Tampa Pre-Regional in Tampa, Fla. on Friday.
