Magalhaes, a freshman defender from the Joao XXIII School in Sao Paolo, Brazil, scored Eastern Florida’s first goal in its 3-0 home debut victory over Broward College on Saturday and anchored a back line that limited the Seahawks to one shot.

“Ivan is a leader for us and he really is a different level player,” Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.

“He’s got all the talent to go right to the top of this game. When he’s on his game there is no forward who can go anywhere near him.”

Nielander, a sophomore from Lake Placid High in Lake Placid, FL, switched positions from outside hitter to libero in Eastern Florida’s match against Lake-Sumter State College in the Pasco-Hernando Community College Conquistador Invitational and responded with 37 digs.

Nielander also recorded 21 digs against Florida College, 25 against Clearwater Christian and 19 against Pasco-Hernando for a weekend total of 102. She also recorded three kills, three aces and seven assists.

“Alana performed well above my expectations and did it for her team,” Eastern Florida head coach Herb Tokumoto said. “She is very deserving of the recognition.”
