Milton, Truesdale Earn FIT Student-Athlete Honors

Newcomers made huge impact

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Newcomers made huge impacts in Florida Tech’s season openers as junior wide receiver Xavier Milton and sophomore setter Ashtin Truesdale were named FIT’s first 2013-14 Student-Athletes of the Week.

The week, spanning from Sept. 2-8, featured Milton lead the Panthers to a 20-13 victory in its inaugural contest over the Stetson Hatters, a Division I-AA program.

Milton recorded FIT’s first-ever touchdown, hauling down a 26-yard pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Sean Ashley to tie the game at 13-13 with just over six minutes remaining in the game.

Truesdale registered 30-plus assists in two games as the volleyball team ended the University of West Florida Opening Weekend Tournament 3-1.

Beginning her Panther career with a nine dig, 16 assist performance against Northern Michigan, the North Carolina native finished with 33 assists in a straight set victory over McKendree and 31 assists and nine digs in a 3-1 win over the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Milton and the football squad head to South Carolina to take on Newberry College on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. while Truesdale and the volleyball team prepare for New York for the Pace Setters Classic in Pleasantville, N.Y. beginning on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m.
