BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Freshman volleyball player Michelle Rodriguez and freshman men’s soccer player Kevyn McFarlane are Eastern Florida State College’s Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22.
Rodriguez, an outside hitter and middle from Escuela Vocacional Republica de Costa Rica and Caguas, Puerto Rico, recorded 27 kills, six aces, two blocks and six digs in Eastern Florida’s two matches last week, a 3-1 defeat at nationally ranked Miami Dade College and a 3-0 victory at Johnson University, Florida.
“Michelle is coming into her own,” Eastern Florida head coach Herb Tokumoto said. “She is adjusting her game to the level of intercollegiate competition and it’s great to see her asserting herself.”
MCFARLANE SCORED TWO BIG GOALS
McFarlane, a midfielder from Palm Beach Lakes Community High and West Palm Beach, FL, scored the winning goal against Georgia Perimeter on Saturday and scored the first goal against Andrew College on Sunday on a 45-yard strike.
Eastern Florida won 2-1 and 4-2 respectively.
“Kevyn scored two big goals for us in two important games over the weekend,” Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.
“We need him to continue to contribute and play at a high level.”
