Brevard County Jail Complex Passes Annual Inspection

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — On October 17, 2013, The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Jail Complex underwent an annual inspection, a review of Florida Model Jail Standards.

The inspection consisted of a walk-through of the entire Jail Complex with review of Reception and intake of visitors and badge procedures, visitation operations and visitor management, Career Development and Training, Pod and Control Room operations, cleanliness and sanitation, chemical storage and perpetual inventory review, fire suppression and response equipment, sewing industry to include tool inventory and storage, facility maintenance. The Jail Complex, as well as the Jail Medical Unit passed with complete compliance of all applicable standards.

The inspection team was comprised of certified inspectors from agencies throughout the State of Florida with expertise relating to the 228 Jail Operations standards and the 44 Medical Unit standards.

The inspection consisted of a walk-through of the entire Jail Complex with review of Reception and intake of visitors and badge procedures, visitation operations and visitor management, Career Development and Training, Pod and Control Room operations, cleanliness and sanitation, chemical storage and perpetual inventory review, fire suppression and response equipment, sewing industry to include tool inventory and storage, facility maintenance.

BOOKING AND INTAKE PROCEDURES

Booking and Intake procedures to include intake and processing of juveniles and intoxicated individuals, Property Room for review of documentation, storage and release of property, Classification and Inmate Records review, Inmate Accounts Office review of accounts and inmate fund deposits and management as well as the inmate Commissary operations.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated, “I am extremely proud that the Inspection results of our Jail Complex and Medical Unit met or exceeded every established standard. The 100% success of the inspection was the direct result of the professionalism and commitment by all of our team members at the Brevard County Jail Complex.”

Also, Review of Mail Room and mail distribution, indigent and legal mail processes. The Inspection team also toured the Medical, Pharmacy and Mental Health Units to verify compliance for Chapter Standards.

The Food Service Unit was reviewed for compliance with meal preparation standards, food storage and cutlery inventory and storage and cleanliness.
