Florida Tech To Face Valdosta State On Road Today

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Week Four of the 2013 Gulf South Conference football season featured two league battles and two non-conference victories.
Delta State (3-1, 2-0) became the first team this season to hit the two-win mark in conference action by outgunning Florida Tech (1-3, 0-2) at home on Saturday, 52-31. DSU overcame a third-quarter comeback by the Panthers, scoring 21 unanswered points over a six-minute span in the fourth quarter.
West Georgia (3-1, 1-0) captured its league-opener and moved its road record to 2-0, thanks to a 31-14 triumph over nearby GSC provisional rival Shorter (0-4, 0-2). UWG trailed heading into the second quarter, but the Wolves’ defense held the Hawks scoreless the rest of the way and the offense scored 24 unanswered points.
VALDOSTA STATE AND WEST ALABAMA TAKE A BREAK
No. 1 Valdosta State (3-0, 1-0) and No. 14 West Alabama (3-1, 1-0) took a break from league action to notch non-conference victories.
UWA opened the week by blowing out Concordia (Ala.), 71-14, on neutral ground in Demopolis, Ala. The Tigers hit the 70-point mark for the second straight year, led by two defensive touchdowns.
VSU capped off Saturday’s action, hosting Game Five of the GSC-TV LIVE Game of the Week package and Lone Star Conference foe Angelo State. Valdosta State’s defense held ASU to just 90 yards passing as the Blazers ran out to a 20-0 halftime lead en route to a 37-3 triumph. The win closed the GSC’s deficit versus the LSC in the 2013 GSC-LSC “First and Ten Challenge” to 2-1.
