Man Arrested For Dragging Pit Bull With SUV

ABOVE VIDEO: Police officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of McDonalds on Babcock Street, and discovered the dog with serious injuries to his paws and side from being dragged.  

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — A man suspected of animal cruelty was arrested by Palm Bay Police Department.

According to Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, this morning at about 7:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a call regarding a black SUV dragging a Pit Bull on a leash, while traveling west bound on Palm Bay Road.

Police officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of McDonalds on Babcock Street, and discovered the dog with serious injuries to his paws and side from being dragged.

The driver was identified as Christopher A. Byrd, and after the Palm Bay police conducted an investigation, arrested Byrd for animal cruelty, DWLS with knowledge and an active warrant.

Animal Control took possession the dog for treatment and reports that the dog will survive.  Animal Control is continuing their investigation.
