Miami Dade Sweeps Eastern Florida in Volleyball

Titans finish conference season Tuesday


BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Nationally ranked Miami Dade College proved to be too much for Eastern Florida State College’s volleyball team on Tuesday in the Melbourne Campus gym, defeating the Titans in three sets.

Nationally ranked Miami Dade College proved to be too much for Eastern Florida State College’s volleyball team on Tuesday in the Melbourne Campus gym, defeating the Titans in three sets.

The 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 victory by 10th-ranked Miami Dade improved its overall record to 17-4 and allowed it to complete another undefeated Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference season at 8-0. Miami Dade has not lost a conference match since 2005.

Eastern Florida fell to 9-19 overall and 1-6 in conference.

Eastern Florida played Miami Dade close, forging one tie at 18-18 in the first set before the Sharks rallied and leading 7-0, 10-4, 14-11 and 16-15 in the second set before succumbing. The Titans led by one point five times in the third set but could not put the Sharks away.

Miami Dade beat the Titans in four sets in Kendall on Sept. 19.

Next up for Eastern Florida is the Lake-Sumter State College Fall Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Clermont. Eastern Florida plays South Florida State College at 2 p.m. Friday and Lake-Sumter at 6:30. On Saturday the Titans play Pasco-Hernando Community College at 11:30 a.m. and nationally second-ranked Hillsborough Community College at 3:30 p.m.

The Titans wrap up their conference season at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Broward College in Davie and bid farewell to their sophomores at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 against Polk State College in Melbourne.
