Hillsborough Sweeps EFSC In Volleyball, Titans Sweep Webber

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Friday was a day of sweeps for Eastern Florida State College’s volleyball team.

Playing shorthanded due to four players being out with injuries Eastern Florida  dropped a three-set decision to nationally third-ranked Hillsborough Community College on Friday in the Melbourne Campus gym but rebounded to sweep the Webber International junior varsity.

Hillsborough improved to 18-1 overall with the 25-15, 25-13, 25-16 victory. Eastern Florida dropped to 8-17. The straight-sets defeat was the second in two days for Eastern Florida which was swept by Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference foe Indian River State College on Thursday in Fort Pierce.

Eastern Florida tied Hillsborough at 3-3 and 4-4 in the first set before surrendering the momentum. It led for six points in the second set before Hillsborough sprinted away for a 2-0 lead.

Eastern Florida managed one tie at 4-4 in the third set before Hillsborough’s strength showed through.

Statistically for Eastern Florida Arianna Bethel had four blocks, Mariah Davis one block and four kills, Carol Kiam Assato  10 digs and two assists and Taylor Gembecki 11 assists, four digs and one block.

Eastern Florida then swept Webber 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 for its ninth victory of the season, exceeding its total of eight from 2012.

Hillsborough swept Webber International’s junior varsity 25-10, 25-16 and 25-17 in the day’s second match to improve to 19-1.
