ABOUT THE PALM BAY POLICE EXPLORERS

The intent of Law Enforcement Exploring is to educate and involve youth in police operations, to interest them in possible law enforcement careers and to build mutual understanding. The educational aspect provides knowledge of the law enforcement function.

The objectives of the Palm Bay Police Explorers are to develop good character, citizenship, and a positive attitude toward law enforcement; to train post members in the field of law enforcement; and to provide an additional source of trained manpower to assist the Police Department in the accomplishment of its duties.

The Palm Bay Police Explorers Post was established in the early 1970’s to develop a more positive relationship between the police officers and the youth of our community and Explorers are provided first hand knowledge of law enforcement procedures.

The Explorers are chartered through the Boy Scouts of America and are sponsored by the Palm Bay Police Department.

“It is our hope through training and experiences that the youth of our community will become involved in law enforcement and community service,” according to the organization’s Facebook page.

The objectives of the Palm Bay Police Explorers are to develop good character, citizenship, and a positive attitude toward law enforcement; to train post members in the field of law enforcement; and to provide an additional source of trained manpower to assist the Police Department in the accomplishment of its duties.

The Palm Bay Police Explorers are a non-profit, community service organization and participate in beach clean-ups, Boy Scout weekends, Memorial Holiday food drives, Holiday parades, National Night Out, Children fingerprinting, Police Explorer Academy, Safety City and Special Olympics.

The Palm Bay Police Explorers undergo comprehensive training including CPR/First Aid, report writing, traffic crashes, criminal law, traffic stops, fingerprinting, domestic violence, handcuffing, search and arrest, traffic control, crime scene, radio procedure, crisis intervention and state competition.

Membership Requirements

•Must be a citizen of the United States.
•Must have completed 8th grade and be between the ages of 14 and 21
•Must obtain all necessary waivers from parent or legal guardian
•Must be in good health and mentally alert and sound
•Must submit to a background check of school, criminal, and home life
•Must be enrolled in school or college
•Must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA
•Must follow all post rules

Meetings are held every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Palm Bay Bay Police Department, located at 130 Malabar Rd SE, in Palm Bay.
