BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Brevard County Medical Society elected officers for 2014 at their recent annual meeting and Thanksgiving dinner held as part of Space Coast Medicine Week at the at the Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place.

The incoming BCMS officers for 2014 include Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, president; Dr. Devin Datta, president-elect; Dr. Piyush Joshi, vice president; and Dr. James Glenn, secretary.

More than 100 local physicians and medical professionals gathered for the general membership meeting  and 2013 BCMS President John Potomski welcomed the group and introduced special guests, including Sister Joan Grace of Wuesthoff.

LOCAL OBSTETRICIANS HONORED

Dr. Heidar Heshmati, Director of the Florida Department of Health in Brevard, presented recognition awards to 11 Brevard County obstetricians that support the Department of Health maternity initiative. The Brevard County Maternity Model Practice is a program offering maternity care to low-income women.

BCMS Executive Director Jeffrey Fischer presented a donation on behalf of the medical society to Captain Guadalupe of the Salvation Army.

“One goal for tonight’s event is giving back to the community,” said Fischer. “Tonight, we are pleased to present a check to the Salvation Army.”

Among those in attendance included Rep. John Tobia, Debbie Fischer, Dr. Rao Kopuri, Dr. Steve Badolato, Dr. Leon Cohen, Dr. David Badolato, Dr. Gobi Balaji, Dr. David Weldon, Dr. Mariana Zelenak and Dr. Lawrence Zeff.

Sister Joan Grace, a Chaplain at Wuesthoff Medical Center, delivered the invocation and Captain Guadalupe of the Salvation Army led the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Elect Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos presented PAC contributions to local legislators.
