The clerk’s office personnel were evacuated, but court proceedings were uninterrupted. The letter wasn’t addressed to anyone specific, just the courthouse, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The letter’s author demanded the release of an inmate, who’s identity is currently being withheld, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Brevard County Fire Rescue Hazmat unit tested the unknown substance and preliminary results showed the substance not to be dangerous.

A sample of the substance will be sent to FDLE for further testing, and the investigation is ongoing.
