SCOTTISH SHEEP HERDING DEMOS

Stuart Ballantyne’s Craigmalloch Border Collies from the Dunedin Highland Games and from the Ft. Lauderdale Highland Games Sheep Dog Demonstrations will bring a wealth of stock and dog knowledge which is used daily on his farm.

Sheepherdness Lucia will assist with the CraigMalloch Border Collies
Sheepherdness Lucia will assist with the CraigMalloch Border Collies

Ballantyne will perform sheep herding demonstrations on Sunday, Nov 10, Saturday November, 16 and Sunday, November 17.

Stuart was born and raised on a small Scottish farm where they had two small residences – Lambdoughty Farm and Craigmalloch farm.

The farm ran a small flock of about 2400 head of Scottish Blackface sheep. The Blackface wool makes the best Harris tweed and Axminster carpets. Stuart moved to the United States 10 years ago and began sheep herding once again about four and a half years ago

Stuart met Lucia Skipwith Lilien about two years ago and they now have a small flock of Scottish Blackface sheep on a small farm and train their five Border Collies Rock, Keene, Dairsie, Hailes and Tyne to work stock and compete in herding competitions across the United States.

The Craigmalloch Border Collies will perform sheep herding demonstrations on Sunday April 21 at 3pm.

Stuart makes shepherds crooks from sheep horn and recently was approached by a film maker about the possibility of making a documentary about crook making as it is such a dying art.

Lucia has proved to be a natural at caring for the stock and learning the art of herding. Her medical background and her intense love of the animals empowers her greatly, making her a very devoted farm partner.

Stuart and Lucia deliver lambs together during lambing season and make sure the flock and the dogs remain not only healthy, but in superior health. It is a full time job, as anyone can tell you that has been around livestock. An experienced public speaker, Lucia brings a demonstration to life with her dialogue.

Hold on to your hats for some incredible world class MONSTER TRUCK CRANKING POWER ACTION.

Predator Racing, Inc. is a monster truck team consisting of the trucks Predator, Prowler and Pouncer, all of which currently compete primarily on the USHRA Monster Jam circuit.

The team is owned by Allen Pezo, and includes Pezo, Dale Mitchell, David Pezo and Larry Jaruzel as drivers. The trucks are famous for their “cat” designs, with the trucks modeled after a panther, tiger, and cheetah, respectively. The team also occasionally runs a conventional Dodge Ram by the name of Lone Eagle.

Pezo is known as one of the best freestylers in the sport. He excels at keeping up momentum and performing huge jumps.

Typically, he is also able to finish the run with his truck intact, although he does perform stunts which have a high degree of danger.

His cartwheel crashes in Jacksonville, Florida in 2004 and Indianapolis, Indiana in 2005 were among the most spectacular moments of their respective years.

RIDE IN A MONSTER TRUCK AND EXPERIENCE THE POWER

Guests at the Space Coast State Fair will be able to ride in a real-life monster truck at the fair as Pezo will bring his ride truck to the fesitval.

Up to 12 people at a time can experience the torque and power as the ride truck winds it’s way safely through the monster truck track. There is a charge of $5 to ride the ride truck.

ABOUT ALLEN PEZO

Allen Pezo has been on the monster truck circuit since he was 15 years old. He got the idea for building his own monster truck when he went to a truck pull at the Ponitac Silverdome in Michigan. There, the idea for his first monster truck, the Lone Eagle, was born. It was a 1984 Chevy Silverado pickup, purchased brand new (stock truck) and modified. It weighed 16,000 lbs.

Allen started booking shows with SRO Motorsports. He did 20 shows per year to start. Allen’s Lone Eagle was a special attraction which was used as filler for the truck pulls and custom car shows.

During these shows, Allen strictly crushed cars. There was no racing, no freestyle, no doughnuts or getting major air off the jumps. The monster truck was only for riding over cars.

Allen hauled Lone Eagle around on a flatbed pulled by a 1 ton dually pickup truck. There was just enough room for the monster truck tires and the truck itself. Very few spare parts were carried. This first truck was run on gasoline. Five gallons lasted a month.

Allen ran Lone Eagle for 5 years, until 1988. Allen, with the help of his family and a few friends, built this first truck. One of these friends was Larry Jaruzel, who currently shares driving responsibilities in Prowler with Allen’s cousin Dave Pezo. These same people helped Allen with each of his trucks, and are still around helping him out today.

CARLA WALLENDA OF THE FLYING WALLENDAS

Carla Wallenda, a member of the famous “Flying Wallendas” family, will return to Brevard and perform her incredible death-defying aerial routine every day and night during the upcoming Space Coast State Fair. Carla, now 77 years old, is the daughter of Karl Wallenda who began performing at the age of 6 in his native Germany in 1911.

WALLENDA-062213-435-1When she ascends the 125 foot pole, it’s easy to see she’s in her element. She scales the first 65 feet with ease before taking a break while her husband, Mike Morgan, performs a high-wire act for the crowd. When Morgan finishes his act, Carla scales the final 45 feet to the top of the pole.

For the next 10 minutes, Carla rocks back and forth on the pole until it’s bending 25 feet in both directions.

Then she hangs upside down from a strap on her foot or hold onto the pole with only one hand as it bends downward.

The crowd is left gasping or covering their eyes. To polish off her act, she climbs atop a small triangle on top of the pole and stands freely, no longer holding onto the pole with her hands. But wait, she’s not done, now she starts to rock the pole back and forth while balancing on top. The crowd can barely stand to watch.

Even little kids are freaking out. To everyone’s relief, she finally climbs down off the pole having cheated death once more. Then, like most great-grandmothers, she reaches for her bifocals. After that, Carla mingles with the crowd, signs autographs and answers questions.
