Florida Tech Men’s Tennis Signs Two In Early Period

Hewitt reached third round of qualifying at National British Tour

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s head men’s tennis coach Bill Macom announced the signings of Ben Hewitt and Ivan Shapovalov to national letters of intent during the early signing period.

A United Kingdom native, Hewitt was part of the Sussex Downs College team that won the Tier Two Regional Premier League Championship. He captained the team and was an undefeated 8-0 in singles and doubles play.

Last season, Hewitt reached the regional championships twice and the semifinals three times.

Shapovalov intends to major in premedical biology. A 5-10 left-hander, Shapovalov held a 4.0 grade point average at Lviv Ukrainian Private Gymnasium.

“Ivan will make an immediate impact on our team,” Macom and Veeder said. “He has done extremely well in his studies and we believe that he will be ready to compete in one of the strongest Division II conferences in the nation.”
