Tech’s Carter Named SSC Basketball Player of the Week

The Sunshine State Conference announced the final SSC/VALIC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week winner this week and Florida Tech junior guard Chris Carter earned his first nod of the season after averaging 25.0 points, 8.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a perfect 3-0 week.

Carter recorded three 20-plus point performances this week, beginning the week by pouring in 25 points, 21 coming from beyond-the-arc, three steals, seven assists and just one turnover in 38 minutes of action in a 84-74 victory over Fisher College of Mass.

In FIT’s annual Holiday Classic, the Port St. Lucie native recorded his fourth double-double of the season in a 92-78 win over North Greenville University, finishing with 21 points and 10 assists.

Against the Crusaders, he added six rebounds and three steals and did not commit a turnover.

In Florida Tech’s 2013 finale, Carter was 9-of-20 from the floor, good for 29 points and four of his seven made free-throws came with less than 1:30 left to play as FIT preserved its victory and defeated LeMoyne-Owen College, 87-82.

Carter registered an 8.3 assist/turnover ratio, reached double figures in points in all 12 of FIT’s games this season and scored over 20 points in eight games this year. The weekly nod is the second of his career, with the first coming on Nov. 26, 2012.

The Panthers return to the hardwood on Jan. 4 at Saint Leo at 4 p.m.
