Florida Tech Swimming Closed Out Homestand Saturday

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A stretch of three straight home meets for Florida Tech came to a close on Saturday when the Panthers hosted Savannah College of Art and Design at the Panther Aquatic Center.
Florida Tech entered the meet following a sweep of Mount Union last Sunday. The men (4-3) won their second straight meet by winning all 11 races in a 106-88 triumph over the Purple Raiders.
The women (3-5) notched their first victory against Mount Union in three meetings by a 110-83 score. They won 10 of 11 races.
Mount Union is ranked No. 3 in men’s and women’s swimming in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America NAIA Poll. Both teams last swam in the SCAD Invite Dec. 5-7 in Savannah, Ga.
The men (0-3) finished third out of six teams and the women (0-4) placed third out of seven teams.
UPCOMING FLORIDA TECH PANTHER MEETS
Saturday’s meeting marked the second between the two institutions. One year ago, the Panthers split against the Bees with the men earning a 122-80 win for the program’s first-ever victory and the women lost 150-50.

The Panthers will now travel to Saint Leo next Friday. Both teams will oppose the Lions and the women will also race Lynn at 3 p.m.
The following day on Jan. 18, FIT will compete for the last time at the Panther Aquatic Center this season against Rollins at 11 a.m.
The home finale marks Senior Day for the Panthers and the team’s last race before the Sunshine State Conference Championships, scheduled for Feb. 19-22 at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
