Austin Allen Named to NCBWA All-South Region Team

Panthers ranked No. 22 in NCBWA Preseason Poll

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Both the Florida Tech Panthers and sophomore Austin Allen received honors in the preseason release put out by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The Panthers were ranked No. 22 in the Preseason Top-25 Poll, and Allen was named to the Second Team All-South Region squad as a utility player.

The Panthers finished the 2013 season with a 32-19 overall record, and finished tied for third in the Sunshine State Conference with a 14-10 record. The squad also advanced to the NCAA South Region Championships.

The Panthers were also ranked fourth in the Preseason South Region Poll. Tampa was ranked first followed by Delta State and West Florida ahead of the Panthers.

Allen was named as a utility player to the Second Team All-South Region squad. Allen batted .356 in 149 plate appearances in 2013. He hit four home runs, drove in 24 RBI’s, and had a .523 slugging percentage.

Allen adds this honor to the five he received following the 2013 season. He was named SSC Freshman of the Year, All-SSC First Team, NCBWA All-South Region Second Team, Daktronics All-South Region First Team, and ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team.

The Panthers begin the season this Saturday as they host North Alabama in a three-game series at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. The squad will begin SSC play Feb. 28 when they host the Sharks of Nova Southeastern.
