UPDATE: U.S. 1 has reopened but power is still out in the area.

PALM BAY, FLORIDA — US1 is re-open to traffic at this time, 4:40 p.m.  Power will be out for the next 2 to 4 hours as FPL makes repairs to the down lines.  It appears that the power line was struck by a semi-truck travelling southbound on US1 causing the conductor to explode.  Debris was scattered over both north and southbound lanes of US1 near Hessey Dr. along with an active live wire on the ground near the same area.

BREAKING-NEWS-SCD-180-13FPL crews have been alerted and are responding but the roadway will be closed until the scene is secure.  Patrol officers are detouring northbound traffic on to Palm Bay Road.

All southbound traffic is being detoured onto Orange Blossom Trail.  Updates will be issued as needed.  Motorists should avoid area if possible.
