Melbourne Police Identify Dead Man Found Floating In River

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The dead man whose body was discovered near the shore of the Indian River on Friday has been identified as 40-year-old Michael McCoy, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Officers responded to the rear of Squid Lips restaurant Friday afternoon after a body was discovered by restaurant staff.

Due to the body being located near an unstable, rocky portion of the shore, a member of the Melbourne Police Dive Recovery Team and the Marine Unit were called upon to retrieve the body from the water.

The body was then turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

At this stage of the investigation, there are no indications of foul play. It is also believed that McCoy may have been a transient.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today. This case remains under investigation.

Body Found In River Near Squid Lips In Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A body was found Friday afternoon floating in the Indian River at the foot of the Eau Gallie Causeway near Squid Lips restaurant.

According to police, patrons of the restaurant reported the man’s body in the water, and an investigation is underway.
