Hayes, Wilson Earn Florida Tech Athletes of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida Tech sophomore men’s lacrosse player Jordan Hayes and junior women’s basketball player Kayk Wilson have been named Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the period of Feb. 24-March 2.

Hayes, a transfer from Alderson Broaddus, received his first start in goal as a Panther last Saturday at Queens University of Charlotte.

He held the Royals offense in check, turning away 15 shots and holding the opposition to eight goals in 60 minutes and 32 seconds.

Wilson contributed a game-high 25 points in the big win. On Senior Day last Saturday against Barry, she scored 23 points and tacked on four steals.

Hayes and the men’s lacrosse team open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wheeling Jesuit at Melbourne Central Catholic’s Hustler Stadium.

FLORIDA TECH RECEIVED SIXTH SEED IN SSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Wilson and the women’s basketball team received the sixth seed in the Sunshine State Conference Basketball Championship and will play five-seeded Barry in the opening round on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.
