BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech freshman Dar Raz was named All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team, announced by the SSC Office Thursday morning and by winning the award, Raz becomes FIT’s first-ever all-conference swimmer in the program’s three-year history.
Raz made a nice impact on the women’s swimming team in her first semester of collegiate swimming earlier this year.
She made her debut by winning the 100-yard backstroke on New Year’s Day against Lewis University.
Raz went on to win two more individual events and one more relay, while finishing second in five other events leading up to the SSC Championship.
At the championship, the Ramat Gan, Israel native finished fourth in the ‘A’ Finals of the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events and fifth in the ‘A’ Final of the 200-yard medley.
Raz wrapped up her first season holding program records in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:05.06 and in the 200-yard IM at 2:06.65.
She and her teammates are also tops in the Panther record book in four relay events: 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:37.49, 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:34.26, 800-yard freestyle relay at 7:48.89 and the 200-yard medley relay at 1:50.25.
“This is a great honor for Dar,” head coach Jeni Ritter said. “To be selected all-conference after one semester of swimming at the college level is impressive. The program is continuing to make strides forward.”
The All-SSC Swimming Team was determined by the total individual scores at the conference championship. The first team was made up of the top eight individual scores, while the next top eight scores were named second team. Raz earned 44 points at the championship.
