Palm Bay High Teacher Arrested On Child Abuse Charges

SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA — The Satellite Beach Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for Jason John Burchfield after completing a lengthy investigation into allegations of Felony Child Abuse and Felony Failure to Report Child Abuse.

According to the Satellite Beach Police Department, Burchfield is currently employed as a teacher at Palm Bay High School with the Brevard County Public  Schools, which requires him by law to report such activity. Investigators do not believe that any criminal events occurred on school property.

The warrant outlines that on three separate occasions in 2013, Burchfield visited a male friend in Satellite Beach who  has a minor, step-daughter under 14 years of age.

During the three separate visits, the minor female was made to undress and be completely naked in the presence of the men for hours at a time, while being forced to consume alcohol, including vodka.

Burchfield acknowledged he was in fact present and confirmed the victim’s allegations, according to the Satellite Beach Police Department.

According to Brevard County Public Schools officials, Burchfield has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a complete investigation into the allegations and is not allowed on school grounds.

Burchfield was charged with three Felony Counts, Child Abuse and three Felony Counts, Failure to Report Child Abuse. His bond was set at $36,000
