Bradley throws 6 innings of two-hit ball in 1-0 win
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Six shutout innings from starting pitcher Jed Bradley helped the Brevard County Manatees to a 1-0 win on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium and complete a three-game sweep of the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
Bradley (2-1, 4.70) allowed just two hits, struck out five and did not issue a walk en route to his second win of the season. The southpaw did not allow a hit until his second time through the Lakeland (7-6) order and only allowed two men to reach scoring position against him.
On the opposite side, Lakeland starter Jake Thompson (2-1, 0.48) took a tough-luck loss as he pitched seven innings and only gave up one run on four hits.
The Manatees (9-4) scored the only run of the contest in the sixth inning.
Tyrone Taylor led off the frame with a double over the head of left fielder Chad Wright.
Taylor’s Minor League-leading 10th double of the season opened the door for Orlando Arcia, who singled to score Taylor.
Brevard’s bullpen took the game the rest of the way for Bradley.
Left-hander Mike Strong pitched a scoreless seventh and righty Tanner Poppe pitched the final two frames to record his fourth save.
Poppe struck out four and only allowed one hit to close out the Manatees’ first series sweep of the year.
The ‘Tees begin a three-game series against the first-place Dunedin Blue Jays (11-2) on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium.
Jorge Lopez (1-1, 4.91) is expected to start for Brevard against Dunedin’s Jesse Hernandez (0-1, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
