“What an honor for Ben and our school to receive the prestigious Hal Chasey award,” said Jeff Carr, Eastern Florida’s Associate Vice President for Athletics.

“Ben is a tremendous leader on and off the floor and a tremendous student-athlete.

“His success is directly correlated to our team’s success the last two years and our two conference championships.  Ben is an exceptional young man and we are very proud of him and his success.

Men’s head coach Jeremy Shulman did a great job recruiting Ben to play for us and we are excited for Ben’s future and were very proud to have Ben represent us the last two years.”

Patrick, from Clearwater, Florida and Impact Academy, gave credit to Shulman.

“I’m grateful to have received this award,” said Patrick who plans to pursue a career in journalism. “A lot of hard work went into it, but I couldn’t have done it without Coach Shulman’s help on and off the court during my two years here. I would like to thank Coach Shulman and the EFSC athletic department for giving me the opportunity to play basketball here, and I would like to send out a thank you to the amazing staff and professors of EFSC who spent so many hours helping me achieve success in the classroom.”

Criteria for the award include the student-athlete having an overall grade point average of at least a 3.3 on a scale of 4.0 and citizenship and athletic prowess. Patrick carries a GPA of 3.94.
