Rita Cole of Viera Killed In Head-On Crash Near Titusville

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Rita Cole, 68, of Viera was killed in a head-on crash on State Road 407, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Cole was driving westbound on State Road 407 in a 2011 Lexus, as Levi Kelley, 29, of New Smyrna Beach, was traveling eastbound on State Road 407 in a 2000 Toyota pickup truck.

For an unknown reason, Cole attempted to pass another vehicle that was in front of her, in a no passing zone.

As Cole traveled into the eastbound lanes, a van in front of Kelley was able to move out of the way, but Cole could not react in time. The front of Cole’s Lexus struck the front of Kelley’s Toyota pickup truck.

Cole was pronounced dead at the scene and Kelley was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

Neither Cole nor Kelley were wearing seat belts, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. This crash remains under investigation.
