BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – A movie featuring martial arts stars Cynthia Rothrock and Don “The Dragon” Wilson, a native of Cocoa Beach, was filmed on the Space Coast in early June.
The cast and crew spent a full week filming on Cocoa Beach streets, Cocoa Beach Pier, Brevard Zoo, Melbourne International Airport, the Port, Scooters and Spokes, International Palms Resort and a Cocoa Beach neighborhood.
The feature length movie is scheduled for a theatrical release in the spring of 2015. Michael Baumgarten is the director, writer and co-producer and he says he might be able to debut the film at the October Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival.
In addition to the martial arts experts, stars include Kathryn Newton, Jansen Panetierre and Brandon Tyler Russell. The movie is about a troubled teen who moves to Cocoa Beach to live with his aunt and uncle.
They teach martial arts where he learns to channel his anger.
Due to the lack of Florida financial incentives for entertainment industry productions, the crew will only film the exterior scenes here on the Space Coast.
Interior filming will be shot in California.
