After an exhibition at NCAA Division I Stetson on Aug. 23, the regular season will get underway at Rick Stottler Field on Sept. 4 when the Panthers host St. Thomas University.

The Panthers are looking to rebound after finishing the 2013 season with a 5-9-1 overall record, and a 2-6 mark in the Sunshine State Conference.

After facing St. Thomas, the Panthers will become road warriors as they have four straight games away from Melbourne.

“We have a strong schedule as always,” Chan said.

“We have some important regional games on the road early in the campaign, and then we get into conference play which will be as challenging as ever.”

That stretch includes games against Coker College, future SSC member Palm Beach Atlantic, and West Alabama. The Panthers will round out the road swing on Sept. 17 when they play at Barry in Miami Shores.

The Panthers will return home to host a non-conference match against Eckerd on Sept. 20 before opening SSC play at Rollins on Sept. 27. The Panthers will play their first SSC match at Rick Stottler Field on Oct. 4 when they host Saint Leo.

“The schedule for this season is very competitive,” Haig said.

“It is always a battle amongst us, and the rest of the teams in the conference.”

“We wanted to experience the west coast style of play, especially in Hawaii,” “We are going there for the experience, and also the level of competition. Those games will make us better towards the end of the season.”

Prior to the regular season opener, the Panthers will play exhibitions at Rick Stottler Field against Eastern Florida State College on Aug. 18 and Flagler on Aug. 23.

After the pair of preseason matches, the Panthers will take to the skies for a trip to the Hawaiian Islands. The squad faces BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 4, and will then close out the trip Sept. 6 by taking on Hawaii-Pacific.

After the trip, the Panthers will return to Rick Stottler Field to face North Georgia on Sept. 12 and Valdosta State on Sept. 14. The Panthers defeated the Blazers of Valdosta State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

After non-conference matches against Barry, Eckerd, and Armstrong Atlantic, the Panthers will open Sunshine State Conference play at Rollins on Sept. 27. The home SSC schedule for the Panthers begins on Oct. 4 when they host Saint Leo.

FINAL FOUR GAMES WILL BE AT HOME

Like the Panther men, the women will play the final four contests of the regular season at home. The women will face Lynn on Oct. 15, Florida Southern on Oct. 18, and Barry on Oct. 22 in SSC play. The match against Barry will also be Senior Day. The 2014 regular season comes to an end for the Panthers on Oct. 25 when they host future SSC member Palm Beach Atlantic.

“Having the final games at home will be huge,” Haig said.

“We are definitely planning on taking advantage of it, and that is why we are away a lot at the beginning of the season. At the end, if we are healthy, we should do very well. It is a big plus over last year when we had to go away at the end of the season.”

The SSC Championships takes place Nov. 4-9 for teams that qualify. The NCAA Division II Regional Tournament begins on Nov. 14.

The Panthers are coming off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2013. The squad advanced to the second round of the tournament, and posted a 12-6-2 overall record. The 12 wins were the second most for a single season in program history.
