ABOVE VIDEO: The inaugural Rocketman Florida Triathlon last year marked the first time in history that Kennedy Space Center’s secured gates were opened for a privately coordinated public sporting event.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Organizers of the Rocketman Florida Triathlon announced the addition of a ½ Iron Distance race to the event.

The the 2014 Rocketman Florida Triathlon is set for Sunday, October 12. The ½ Iron distance is popular among seasoned triathletes and features a 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run.

The Rocketman Florida also includes two other races including the Classic + with a .25 mile swim, 32-mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run, and the International + featuring a .93 mile swim, 32-mile bike ride and a 6.2 mile run.

The total field of the Rocketman is limited to 1,000 athletes.

The triathlon is set in one of the most iconic race venues in the world with more than 20 miles of the bike leg taking place inside the secured gates of the Kennedy Space Center and taking athletes past many of America’s greatest space program landmarks, including the Space Shuttle launch pads and the Vehicle Assembly Building.

The Rocketman Florida Triathlon is the only privately coordinated sporting event to ever take place at the Kennedy Space Center.

The event is capped at 1,000 total athletes, with 250 entrants allowed in the ½ Iron distance race.
