Sheriff Claude W. ‘Jake’ Miller Dies At 77

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office sadly announced today the passing of former Sheriff Claude W. “Jake” Miller.

Sheriff Miller passed away this morning at Jess Parrish Hospital with his family and friends by his side.

Sheriff Miller was 77 years old, and had proudly served 45 years as a dedicated law enforcement officer.

His career began in 1959 with the Hampton Virginia Police Department, Titusville Police Department 1965-1978, appointed Sheriff of Brevard County 1979, Melbourne Police Department 1979-1980 and was elected Sheriff serving the citizens of Brevard from 1980-1997. During Sheriff Miller’s career, he additionally served as Chief of Police for the Titusville and Melbourne Police Departments.

Sheriff Miller is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Jakette Foskey, and sons Ray Miller and Kris Poff.

“The thoughts and prayers of our agency and community go out to the family of Sheriff Jake Miller,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey. 

“He was an incredible leader, friend and mentor who’s legacy is an everlasting fingerprint on the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the entire criminal justice community. Sheriff Miller will forever be in our hearts and memories.”

Anytime we lose a member of the law enforcement family, it is important to show our support.

In honor of Sheriff Miller, Sheriff’s Office personnel are wearing mourning bands through the funeral service. Currently members of our agency are working to comfort Sheriff Miller’s family and to assist as they prepare the final arrangements.
