Multi-Vehicle Accident Near Patrick Air Force Base

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE — Florida Highway Patrol is on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on A1A at Patrick Air Force Base.

FHP-180-2According to FHP trooper Wanda Diaz, two people were airlifted to the hospital but the severity of their injuries has not been officially disclosed.

The accident involved two vehicles, including one towing a boat.The vehicles struck a building at the AFB causing minor damage to the structure.

UPDATE: 
According to Florida Highway Patrol, two vehicles involved in the crash were traveling southbound on SR-A1A in the right lane.

Louis Segretto, 60 of Satellite Beach, stopped to check the trailer connected to his Dodge Truck. While Segretto was checking the trailer connection, his passenger, Melody Segretto entered the roadway in an attempt to direct traffic around the vehicle.

Amy Petty, 40 of Satellite Beach, was distracted and failed to see Melody Segretto directing traffic. According to FHP, Petty struck Mrs. Segretto, then struck the left rear of the boat on the trailer. Mr. Segretto, who was standing behind the boat, was struck by the boat. Petty came to a final rest in the left lane.

The trailer traveled across the road on to the shoulder and struck the fence by Patrick Air Force Base. The boat came off the trailer and came to rest in the right lane facing west.

Segretto was charged with improper stopping on roadway, and Petty was charged with careless driving. Mrs. Segretto was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is listed in serious condition. Mr. Segretto suffered minor injuries.
