BCFR Responds To Near Drowning On Kiwanis Island

MAN LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION

MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — A 52-year old man from Cocoa is in critical condition after he nearly drowned near Kiwanis Island Park on Merritt Island.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Office’s public information officer David Jacobs, the investigation so far has determined that two men were fishing this morning when one of them men decided to swim from the boat in the area of the SR 520 bridge and Sykes Creek waterway.

Upon jumping into the water, the man became distressed and when the other occupant of the boat noticed, the swimmer was pulled to safety.

CPR was administered by Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel, who then transported the victim to the hospital.

According to Jacobs, the incident appears to be accidental in nature and the victim is currently listed in critical condition.
