BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — An 11-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was struck by his father’s SUV as he was being dropped off at school.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Kim Montes, Latwain Hadley, 42, of Cocoa, was parked in the parking lot of 1496 Clearlake Road (Shooters Billiards and Bar) facing north.

Hadley parked here to let his passengers (juveniles) exit and  walk to school. Four passengers exited the vehicle and started walking in a north direction away from, but one child paused and crouched to tie his shoe in front of the SUV.

According to Montes, the child was located toward the front left tire and out of the view of Hadley, who made a left turn and ran over the child.

Hadley continued the left turn then stopped after he was alerted by other pedestrians about the collision. Hadley then reversed the vehicle and parked. The child was taken to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
