Titans finish regular season 11-2-1
Eastern Florida’s men’s soccer team punched its postseason ticket on Sunday, defeating NJCAA Region 8 foe Broward College in Pembroke Pines.
The 3-1 victory combined with a 3-2 victory on Oct. 14 gave EFSC the edge in the three-game series played to determine the postseason representative.
The teams tied 1-1 in double overtime in the Oct. 7 series opener at Broward.
“It wasn’t pretty today, it didn’t need to be pretty,” said EFSC head coach Oliver Twelvetrees.
“We just needed to get a result and we did. I’m proud of the boys’ effort in the series not to lose, and to keep working to the final whistle.”
EFSC advances to the regional tournament this week in Axton, Virginia where it plays Patrick Henry College on Thursday. A victory would send EFSC to Louisburg, N.C. on Saturday.
EFSC led 2-0 at the half on Sunday thanks to a third-minute goal from freshman Clef Desir and a goal 12 minutes later from sophomore Farias Juarez. Desir got the assist.
EFSC widened its lead to 3-0 on Juarez’s second goal assisted by freshman Shahri Sepehri before Broward broke through with 10 minutes to play.
For the second straight game EFSC was forced to play a man down due to a red card, this one to freshman Miles McRae with eight minutes to play.
Freshman Carlos Qunitana manned the goal for EFSC making four saves, all in the second half.
EFSC finished the regular season at 11-2-1 and earned its second postseason berth in its second year as a program.
Broward finished at 6-4-1.
Eastern Florida’s women’s soccer team also earned a postseason berth, its fourth straight.
