close margins in four municipal races

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Supervisor of Elections Office was a hub of activity this morning as four machine recounts were conducted and resulted in no changes in the winners of four municipal races.

The recounts were a result of close margins from the November 4 General Election in four municipal races.

Recounts were done for the Melbourne City Council, District 3 race; Palm Bay City Council, Seat 5 race; Barefoot Bay Recreation District Trustees and a referendum issue in the Town of Malabar. Upon completion of the recounts, winning candidates from Election Day remained the same.

The Town of Malabar remained an exact tie for Referendum Question 2, relating to a change in terms for Town Council Members. The tie statutorily prompts a manual recount since the margin of difference is less than .25%.

SCD-POLITICS-180-1The manual recount will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12 in the Supervisor of Elections Viera office.

All Canvassing Board meetings are open to the public.
