Heather Lewis To Discuss Ron Jon’s Partnership With Special Olympics Florida

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Join the Space Coast Florida Public Relations Association on Thursday, Nov. 20, for their monthly breakfast meeting featuring Heather Lewis, Marketing Director at Ron Jon Surf Shop.

The event will be held at theRon Jon Surf Shop Watersports Retail Store, located at 4151 North Atlantic Avenue in Cocoa Beach.

Lewis joined the company in 1993 to oversee print advertising, media buying and special events. In 1997 she was promoted to director of marketing and is responsible for the marketing, advertising and public relations efforts nationwide for 11 company-owned store locations.

In addition to her work at Ron Jon, Lewis serves on the board of Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Brevard Zoo. She also served as a board member of the Brevard Schools Foundation and served as a mentor with the Take Stock in Children scholarship program.

Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree specializing in Advertising and Public Relations, with a Political Science Minor, from the University of Central Florida in 1991.

During her presentation Nov. 20, Lewis will discuss Ron Jon’s partnership with Special Olympics Florida and the successful growth of the Special Olympics State Surfing Championship.

What began in the summer of 2010 as a trial surf program within Brevard County quickly grew to a statewide Special Olympics competition in Cocoa Beach every September, which now draws more than 130 athletes from across the state.

It all started when Ron Jon Surf Shop, through its affiliated Ron Jon Surf School, partnered with Special Olympics Florida to bring surf instruction as well as the culture and lifestyle of surfing to Special Olympics athletes.

In a few short years, this partnership has brought tremendous joy to Ron Jon Surf Shop and Surf School, Special Olympics Florida, and hundreds of athletes from around the state who come to Cocoa Beach each September to achieve their personal best riding the waves.

Lewis will also discuss strategies for tying philanthropy with a business brand, and how this can drive community awareness and support, improve employee engagement, and most importantly, raise money and awareness for worthy causes.

The event will begin at 7:45 a.m. with registration and networking, 8:15 to 9 a.m. for the program, followed by Ron Jon’s retail/brand tour from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

The cost is $10 for members and $15 non-members and students – with a portion of ticket sales being donated to the Special Olympics. Coffee and a light continental breakfast will be provided.
