BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s women’s basketball team ran out to an 18-2 first-half lead but let the advantage slip away, falling 75-74 to state-and nationally ranked Gulf Coast State on Friday at Chipola College in Marianna.

EFSC, ranked eighth in Florida, fell to 7-4 while Gulf Coast, ranked fourth in Florida and 14th nationally improved to 9-1.

Gulf Coast led 35-34 at halftime.

Sophomore Rachelle Aupont led EFSC with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Classmate Jessica Doyle scored 13 points and freshman Crystal Townsend had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Next up for EFSC’s women is a 5 p.m. Eastern time game against nationally No. 1-ranked and host Chipola College (10-0) on Saturday.

The EFSC women wrap up their pre-holiday schedule by hosting the College of Central Florida at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16. CCF beat the Titans 78-57 on Friday. They then are off until hosting Niagara Community College at 6 p.m. Dec. 30.
