Melbourne Police Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –  Hugh R. Johnson, 64, of Melbourne was arrested and charged with with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

On Sunday, Melbourne police officers responded to a residence on Brothers Avenue in reference to a disturbance call involving a firearm.

The caller said that a female victim had been shot and the male suspect was walking away from the scene. Johnson was located by responding officers and safely detained.

The female victim was found to have suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, but was conscious and able to communicate.

She was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where she received medical attention. Her injuries were determined to be non-life threatening and she was later released.

According to the Melbourne police, the investigation revealed that Johnson and the female victim lived together in a domestic relationship.
