BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Brevard Public School’s Sprint Super Hero for December 2014 is Barbi Miller, a teacher of gifted students at Palm Bay Elementary in Palm Bay.
Miller is actively involved with Special Olympics Florida. Recently, at the Special Olympics state games in Orlando, Miller received the inspirational coach award.
“This award honors the coaches who have inspired others to reveal their inner champions and is a chance to celebrate the dedication and passion that volunteer coaches bring to Special Olympics Florida,” according to the website.
Last summer, Miller’s Special Olympics unified softball team took gold at the national games in New Jersey.
The unified team is comprised of both athletes and partners, meaning half of the players are intellectually challenged, while the other half are not.
